URE-FIL™ 5 is ideal for achieving a wood grain effect in your castings. To use, ensure your mold reflects the wood grain pattern you want. Mix one part filler with a 1A:1B ratio of Smooth-Cast™ 325 resin and pour into the mold. Once demolded, enhance the wood grain effect by applying wood stain or shoe polish.
For optimal results, make sure the filler is thoroughly mixed into the liquid rubber or resin until you achieve a uniform consistency. When using large amounts of filler, add it to the fully mixed resin or rubber. Combine both parts A and B, mix thoroughly, then incorporate the filler. Ensure there are no lumps by using the 'double-mix and pour' technique.
Moisture Considerations: Powder fillers can absorb moisture from the air, which may react with urethane materials, causing bubbling or foaming. If this occurs, your filler may contain moisture.
Moisture Removal: Spread the filler on a foil-lined cookie sheet to a thickness of 0.95-1.25 cm (3/8"-1/2"). Bake at 60°C (150°F) for 4 hours. Allow the filler to cool to room temperature before use.
Storage Tips: To minimize moisture absorption, use the filler as soon as possible after purchase. Transfer the filler from its container and immediately replace the lid. If storing for extended periods, use desiccant pouches to keep the filler dry, replacing them every time the container is opened. Ensure the lid is tightly secured before storing.
