Description

This soft, stable platinum silicone rubber is designed for creating silicone makeup appliances and skin effects. It is compatible with Skin-Tite™ silicone adhesive and medical-grade pressure-sensitive adhesives for temporary skin application. The product has a Shore hardness of 2A and can be combined with SLACKER™ deadening agent to create a soft silicone gel for filling encapsulated silicone pieces. An infinite number of color effects can be achieved by adding Silc-Pig™ silicone pigments. Cured rubber can also be painted with the Psycho Paint™ system.

Features

  • Soft - Shore 2A hardness allows for softer appliances using less SLACKER™ deadening agent
  • Low Viscosity - combined with long working time reduces bubbles and makes pouring easier
  • Cures Dry - will not leach silicone fluid
  • Long Working Time - 10-12 minute working time is good for larger pours or injections
  • Fast Cure - 40 minute cure time allows for quick turnaround of castings or molds
  • More Workable - has a ‘gel’ stage - slushing the material into prosthetic molds is easier

Instructions

Pouring

For best results, pour the mixture in a single spot at the lowest point of the containment field, allowing the rubber to seek its own level. A uniform flow will help minimize entrapped air. If using as a mold material, ensure the liquid rubber levels off at least 1.3 cm (1/2”) over the highest point of the model surface.

Safety

  • Use in a well-ventilated area.
  • Wear safety glasses, long sleeves, and rubber gloves to minimize contamination risk. Use vinyl gloves only, as latex gloves will inhibit curing.
  • Store and use material at room temperature (23°C). Warmer temperatures reduce working and cure times and shorten shelf life.

Cure Inhibition

  • Addition-cure silicone rubber may be inhibited by contaminants, resulting in tackiness or lack of cure. Test compatibility with a small-scale test if concerned.
  • Apply a clear acrylic lacquer to the model surface to prevent inhibition. Allow to dry thoroughly before applying rubber.
  • Note: Platinum silicones do not work with sulfur-heavy modeling clays. Test for compatibility before use.
  • Because no two applications are quite the same, a small test application to determine suitability for your project is recommended if performance of this material is in question.

Note: Even with a sealer, platinum silicones will not work with modeling clays containing heavy amounts of sulfur. Do a small scale test for compatibility before using on your project.

Applying A Release Agent

  • A release agent can ease demolding. Use Ease Release™ 200 for silicone rubber molds.
  • Lightly brush the release agent over all model surfaces, followed by a light mist coating. Let dry for 30 minutes.
  • If unsure about sealer/release agent effectiveness, perform a small-scale test.

Measuring and Mixing

  1. Pre-mix Part B thoroughly.
  2. Mix Parts A and B (1A:1B by volume or weight) for 3 minutes, scraping container sides and bottom.
  3. Vacuum degassing is recommended to remove air. Vacuum for 2-3 minutes (0.98 bar), leaving room for volume expansion.
  4. Pour mixture at the lowest point of the containment field for uniform flow and minimal air entrapment.

Curing / Post Curing

  • Allow rubber to cure at room temperature (23°C) before demolding. Do not cure below 18°C.
  • Optional: Post cure at 80°C for 2 hours and 100°C for 1 hour for maximum properties. Cool to room temperature before use.

If Using As A Mold

  • Silicone rubber molds naturally release, but mold lubricity may decrease over time. No release agent is needed for wax or gypsum.
  • Apply a release agent like Ease Release™ 200 before casting polyurethane, polyester, and epoxy resins to prevent mold degradation.

Thickening and Thinning

  • Use THI-VEX™ to thicken for vertical applications. Adjust viscosity by varying THI-VEX™ amount.
  • Silicone Thinner™ lowers viscosity for easier pouring and degassing. Do not exceed 10% by weight of total system (A+B).

Mold Performance & Storage

  • Mold life depends on use. Abrasive materials like concrete erode detail, while non-abrasive materials like wax do not.
  • Clean molds with soap solution and dry before storing. Assemble multi-part molds and store on a level surface in a cool, dry environment.
