General Description

This alginate molding powder is designed for creating single-use molds of body parts, such as faces and hands. It captures detail more accurately than other alginates and is skin safe, certified by an independent laboratory.

Technical Properties

Use Cases

Ideal for lifecasting applications such as making molds of hands, faces, and other body parts. For reusable molds, silicone rubber is recommended.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Store and use in a dry environment at room temperature.
  • If the powder gets warm during storage/shipping, store in a cool area (15°C - 31°C / 60°F - 70°F) for 24 hours before use.
  • Use as soon as possible due to limited shelf life.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation during use.

Practice

Make a mold of your thumb or something small before larger models to gain experience.

Applying A Release Agent

  • Will not stick to most surfaces.
  • For head molds, use hair conditioner on hair-covered areas to prevent mechanical lock.

Measuring

  • Mix 1 part water to 1 part powder by volume.
  • Adjust water level to change consistency; less water for thicker, more for thinner.
  • Avoid too much water as it may prevent curing.

Water Quality

  • High mineral content water may cause lumpiness or improper setting.
  • Use distilled water if necessary, heated to the correct temperature.

Temperature Of The Water

  • At 27°C (80°F), working time is 5 minutes, demold time is 8 minutes.
  • Warmer water speeds up curing, colder water slows it down.

Mixing

  • Hand mixing is possible, but a power drill with a mixer attachment yields best results.
  • Mix for one minute to a gel-like consistency, smooth without lumps.

Pouring Around An Object

  • Pour around the model in a fixed position inside a container, ensuring clearance from the bottom and sides.
  • Apply a thin coating to the model surface before pouring.

For Vertical Application

  • Experiment with water amount for thicker consistency suitable for vertical surfaces.

Applying A Support Shell

  • Use bandages to support the alginate mold after curing.

Casting Into The Mold

  • Cast into the mold within 4 hours following demold.
  • Materials for casting include plaster, wax, clay, and fast urethane resins.
