URE-FIL™ 9 is a versatile thickening agent designed for use with liquid urethane and silicone rubbers. It is particularly effective in brush-on moldmaking applications. By adding small amounts to the mixed rubber, users can achieve the desired viscosity for their specific needs. Additionally, it can be used with liquid urethane resins to create unique casting effects and to thicken the material for trowelable applications.
For optimal results, ensure that the filler is thoroughly dispersed in the liquid rubber or resin to achieve a uniform consistency. When working with large concentrations of filler, it is advisable to mix it into the fully combined parts A and B of the rubber or resin. This ensures that the filler is evenly distributed and free of lumps. The 'double-mix and pour' technique can often yield superior results.
It is important to guard against moisture, as powder fillers can absorb atmospheric moisture over time, which may react with urethane materials. If bubbling or foaming occurs in the resin/filler mix, the filler likely contains moisture.
Instructions
Mixing Instructions:
Thoroughly disperse the filler in liquid rubber or resin to achieve a uniform consistency.
For large concentrations, add the filler to completely mixed rubber or resin (combine parts A and B), then mix thoroughly.
Ensure there are no lumps; the 'double-mix and pour' technique may improve results.
Guarding Against Moisture:
All powder fillers absorb atmospheric moisture, which can react with urethane materials.
If bubbling or foaming occurs, the filler likely contains moisture.
Moisture Remedy:
Line a cookie sheet with foil and spread the filler evenly to a thickness of 0.95-1.25 cm (3/8"-1/2").
Bake in an oven at 60°C (150°F) for 4 hours.
Allow the filler to cool to room temperature before mixing with urethane materials.
Storage:
Use the filler promptly after purchase to prevent moisture absorption.
Decant the filler and replace the lid immediately; do not leave the container open for more than a minute.
For prolonged storage, use desiccant pouches in the container and replace them every time you open it.
Ensure the container lid is secure before storing.
