Description

Part of the NV Series, this translucent platinum silicone is easy to use with a 1A:1B mix ratio by volume. Its low viscosity eliminates the need for vacuum degassing in most cases.

Features

  • Mold Making: Suitable for creating strong molds for casting wax, gypsum, resins, and more.
  • Skin Effects (SFX): Used for creating realistic skin and creature effects. Certified skin safe, ideal for casting into alginate molds for body part props. Achieve various color effects with Silc Pig™, Ignite™ pigments, or Cast Magic™ powders. Can be thickened with THI-VEX™ or softened with SLACKER™ for life-like silicone appliances. Paintable with Psycho Paint™ for enhanced realism.
  • Note: Will not cure against surfaces containing sulfur, even when sealed.

Instructions

Use in a well-ventilated area. Wear safety glasses, long sleeves, and rubber gloves. Use vinyl gloves only, as latex inhibits curing. Store and use at 23°C (73°F). Warmer temperatures reduce working and cure times. Use straight-sided mixing containers and flat mixing sticks.

Cure Inhibition

Contaminants like latex, sulfur clays, and certain woods can inhibit curing. Test compatibility by applying a small amount of rubber to a non-critical area. If tacky or uncured, inhibition has occurred. Use clear acrylic lacquer as a sealer, allowing it to dry thoroughly before applying rubber.

Because no two applications are quite the same, a small test application to determine suitability for your project is recommended if performance of this material is in question.

Note: Even with a sealer, platinum silicones will not work with modeling clays containing heavy amounts of sulfur. Do a small scale test for compatibility before using on your project.

Applying A Release Agent

A release agent can ease demolding. Use Ease Release™ 200 for silicone or other surfaces, but not on skin. Brush lightly and mist, allowing 30 minutes to dry. Do not use a release agent if planning to paint with Psycho Paint™.

Measuring & Mixing

Stir Parts A and B before dispensing. Mix 1A:1B by volume or weight for 3 minutes, scraping sides and bottom of the container.

Pouring, Curing & Performance

Pouring: Pour in a single spot at the lowest point. Ensure liquid levels at least 1.3 cm (1/2 inch) over the model's highest point.

If Using As A Mold: Silicone molds naturally release but may require Ease Release™ 200 for polyurethane, polyester, and epoxy resins.

Thickening: Use THI-VEX™ for vertical applications. Adjust viscosity by varying THI-VEX™ amounts.

Curing/Post Curing: Cure at 23°C (73°F). Demold time can be reduced with mild heat or Plat-Cat™ accelerator. Extend pot life and cure times with Slo-Jo™ retarder. Post cure at 80°C (176°F) for 2 hours and 100°C (212°F) for 1 hour for maximum properties.

Mold Performance & Storage

Physical life depends on use. Clean molds with soap solution and dry before storage. Store assembled molds on a level surface in a cool, dry place.
