Description

URE-FIL™ 15 micro-balloons are designed to be mixed with urethane plastics and epoxies, allowing for the creation of lightweight castings. These castings can float on water when the correct proportions are used. When a large amount of these micro-balloons is added to a casting resin, the result is a syntactic foam. Syntactic foams are non-expanding and offer greater stiffness, strength, and water resistance compared to water-blown expanding urethane foams of the same density.

For optimal results, ensure the fillers are thoroughly dispersed in the liquid rubber or resin to achieve a uniform consistency. This involves mixing both parts A and B of the rubber or resin before adding the filler. The 'double-mix and pour' technique can enhance the final product.

To prevent moisture absorption, use the filler promptly after purchase. If storing for extended periods, place desiccant pouches in the container and ensure the lid is tightly sealed. Replace desiccant pouches regularly to maintain effectiveness.

Instructions

Mixing Instructions:

Combine parts A and B of the rubber or resin thoroughly before adding URE-FIL™ 15.
Mix the filler in until there are no lumps present.
Consider using the 'double-mix and pour' technique for better results.

Guarding Against Moisture:

All powder fillers can absorb moisture, which may react with urethane materials.
If bubbling or foaming occurs, the filler likely contains moisture.

Remedy:

Line a cookie sheet with foil and spread the filler evenly to a thickness of 0.95 cm-1.25 cm (3/8”-1/2”).
Place in an oven at 60°C (150°F) for 4 hours.
Allow the filler to cool to room temperature before mixing with urethane materials.

Storage:

Use filler quickly after purchase to prevent moisture absorption.
Decant filler and replace the lid immediately after use.
If storing for long periods, use desiccant pouches and ensure the container lid is secure.
